About Sarah Watson, LPC & CST

Michigan Professional Counselor License Number: 6401012503

As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist (CST) with 15 years of experience serving metro Detroit and Michigan. I am deeply committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based therapy. I genuinely appreciate each client who trusts me with their most personal challenges and strive to deliver exceptional care that creates lasting positive change.

My pronouns are she, her, and hers.

Professional Training & Credentials: I am a Michigan Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Sex Therapist, bringing comprehensive training from respected institutions:

  • Oakland University: Bachelor's degree in Art History

  • Wayne State University: Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling & Art Therapy

  • University of Michigan: Sexual Health Certificate Program

This diverse educational foundation allows me to integrate creative therapeutic approaches with clinical expertise in sexual health and relationship counseling.

My Values: My practice is built on social justice principles and inclusive care. I believe that Black Lives Matter, all trans lives matter, and that abortion is essential healthcare. Gender is complex and exists on a spectrum, and I am a proud ally to LGBTQIA+ individuals and families. As a feminist therapist, I work to dismantle systems of oppression that impact my clients' wellbeing.

My Therapeutic Approach: I am passionate about providing scientifically accurate sexual health information and believe that open, honest conversations about sexuality can transform lives and communities.

Education that's accurate, not shaming

Most of us were never taught the truth about our bodies. Many women learned about sex through silence, fear, or messages centered on someone else's pleasure. I offer clear, medically accurate information about anatomy, arousal, desire, hormones, pain, and how bodies change across life stages like postpartum, perimenopause, and menopause. Understanding what's actually happening in your body can bring enormous relief, and it's often where real change begins.

For women: coming home to yourself

When you've spent years caring for everyone else, reconnecting with your own desire can feel unfamiliar. Together we'll explore what pleasure means to you, gently untangle the messages that taught you to put yourself last, and help you feel more present and comfortable in your body. I draw on Internal Family Systems (IFS), CBT, and somatic approaches to work with both your thoughts and the wisdom your body holds.

For couples: rebuilding closeness and erotic connection

When sex becomes a source of tension, both partners usually feel hurt, just in different ways. I help couples slow down the painful cycles, understand what's underneath them, and talk about sex in ways that bring them closer instead of pushing them apart. Using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method, we'll strengthen your emotional bond while building an erotic connection that feels mutual, playful, and alive.

Inclusive and affirming

My practice is rooted in a social justice lens. I welcome clients of all identities, relationship structures, and body types, and I recognize how culture, religion, health systems, and gender roles shape our experience of sex and intimacy. You won't have to explain or defend who you are here.

My hope is that you leave therapy not just with fewer problems, but with a deeper connection to yourself, your partner, and the pleasure you deserve.

What to expect when starting sex therapy

I provide both virtual therapy sessions and in-person counseling for Michigan residents, with my practice conveniently located in Auburn Hills. I welcome clients from surrounding areas including Troy, Rochester Hills, Bloomfield Hills, and throughout Metro Detroit.

Virtual sessions are provided via video on a HIPAA compliant platform.

The First Session: We will meet and explore your primary concern. Together we will make sure that you feel comfortable with me and that I am the right clinician for you. If I am not, I will happily provide you with several referrals.

Sessions are 45 to 53 minutes. You can expect to be listened to and assisted to create goals to achieve your best self.
