I help adult women and couples who are struggling with disconnection, low and or mismatched desire, and stuck patterns around sex and intimacy, and who want to feel more at home in their bodies and closer to the people they love.
Sarah Watson is a Michigan Licensed Professional Counselor and AASECT Certified Sex Therapist specializing in sex therapy, couples therapy, intimacy, desire, and women's sexual wellness.
I often work with adult women who feel disconnected from their desire, pleasure, or bodies, sometimes after years of putting everyone else first. They may be navigating low or mismatched desire, pain during sex, body image or shame, sexual confidence, motherhood or other life transitions, menstrual or pelvic-health concerns that affect sexuality, or a desire to reclaim pleasure.
I also work with couples experiencing emotional or physical disconnection. Common concerns include sexless or low-sex relationships, desire differences, communication breakdowns, recurring conflict, rebuilding trust, and difficulty talking about sex without blame or shame.
My work is also LGBTQIA+ affirming, including support around sexual orientation, gender identity, coming out and family acceptance, minority stress, and relationship dynamics when those concerns are part of the therapy work.
When this is a good Fit
Want to talk openly and directly about sex, desire, intimacy, and relationships.
Are interested in understanding the emotional and relational patterns underneath sexual or intimacy concerns.
Want therapy that considers both emotional connection and physical/sexual connection.
Value an affirming, socially conscious approach to sexuality, relationships, identity, and women's sexual health.
Prefer private-pay therapy and are seeking care without having to make sex or intimacy concerns fit into a narrow diagnosis.
when this is not a good fit
Need crisis or emergency mental health care.
Are looking for individual therapy for men.
Are seeking therapy for a child or teenager.
Need couples therapy billed through insurance.
Are looking primarily for medical evaluation or treatment of a sexual, menstrual, or pelvic-health condition rather than psychotherapy.
Sex therapy is talk therapy. It does not involve removing clothing, physical contact, sexual contact, or sexual activity between therapist and client.
